Kingfisher Rising

This linoprint is of an Azure Kingfisher - Ceyx azureus (featured above), which is never far from water. It loves to hunt in freshwater rivers and creeks as well as billabongs, lakes, swamps and dams. You’ll often find them sitting in shady overhanging vegetation ready and waiting for their next catch.

In this piece, I’ve captured the rise of the azure as it comes out of the water, caught in copper sunlight.

‘Kingfisher rising’ is also available without the copper sun for those seeking a more minimalist addition to their wall.

This piece took me a weekend to carve and a couple of weeks to print using a mix of Sakura Prussian Blue and Black ink. The copper sun is hand painted with 100% copper leaf.

These prints are printed on A3 pieces of 220 gsm archival paper.

‘Kingfisher rising’ is an open edition, meaning I will keep printing these until I decide to retire the block. I know it is a favourite print for many, so I’d like to make it available for as long as there is love for this print.
