Weyba

‘Weyba’ was inspired by a walk I did in early spring overlooking Lake Weyba on the Sunshine Coast, Qld through the Wallum. The wildflowers were just coming into bloom and the trail was full of insects and birdlife.

There’s a gentle quietness to this area, something that allows you to think more deeply as you walk, feel into the space around you, and shed life’s stresses and demands. Many designs have come to me on my walks through this area.

I had dried protea and local banksias sitting in a vase at home, some of them I had seen along the walk. Feeling inspired, I sketched this image exploring the landscape I’d just been in and the beauty of plants in the Proteaceae family.

This linoprint took me a couple of weeks to carve and print using Silk Cut Lino and a mix of Sakura Prussian Blue and Black ink. The sun was hand painted and copper leaf applied once the prints dried.

These prints are printed on A3 pieces of 210 gsm archival rag paper, with 100% copper leaf detail on the sun setting over the lake.

I decided to limit this edition to 40 prints only.
